Goldfish fungus salt treatment11/7/2023 ![]() ![]() if u don’t have real plants/don’t care, ur good to go! most plants might be ok, the dosage isn’t too too high. i have treated in a tank with a few plants, all managed to perk up after a couple weeks luckily. i would honestly suggest doing this in your main tank, unless it’s heavily planted as the salt can cause the plants to die. You can start treating with salt right away. i would change out the carbon after 5 days though, just to be thorough! ![]() and since you’ve had activated carbon running already, i’m sure a lot of it has been removed. I believe it’s safe to use methylene blue with aquarium salt. either way, i still think u should start w the salt and if it doesn’t end up working try medication again but w/o the purigen i wonder if it has been doing this during your treatments. I don’t use seachem products in my filter but according to my short research, seachem purigen does remove some medications similar to activated carbon. That method has never failed me before! but whatever you decide to do next i wish you luck! you clearly care about your fish very much:) slowly remove the salt throughout the next few water changes (once a week or so) each water change replace only the salt that was taken out and repeat for 7-10 days. do small water changes every 1-2 days (20%-25%). add it to the tank once it’s all dissolved. Make sure all other meds are out of the water, dilute 1tbsp of aquarium salt/5gallons of water into a separate bucket of the aquarium water. If you do try again w aquarium salt, here is how i would go about doing it: aquarium salt will heal fungal infections while decreasing stress by helping the fish produce their slime coat, and helping them breath easier. I have a hunch that your fish isn’t healing because it’s very stressed out between all the meds and the large water changes. put activated carbon into your filter (which u were probably already doing between new treatments?) but make sure ALL medication is out of your tank. I would recommend starting over with aquarium salt. How were you treating with aquarium salt? aquarium salt is always what i use for fungal infections, i’ve dealt with it a couple times and it hasn’t failed me yet. that completely destroys the cycle and kills off all beneficial bacteria i believe. I’m actually shocked that you were told to dose your main tank with methylene blue. i mean stress alone can cause fungal infections as it lowers their immune system. Perhaps all these treatments have been too stressful for your goldfish. Water Parameters (API Freshwater Master Test Kit & API GH/KH Test Kit) He is the only fish in a 30 gal tank, is very active and has not lost any appetite at all.įluval 206 canister filter, which consists of a coarse sponge, fine sponge, bio rings, Seachem Matrix and Seachem Purigen. Note: Throughout his treatments I did water changes on the main tank, about 40-60% at a time. Lastly I was told to add some methylene blue to the main tank. I have tried aquarium salt, methylene blue, malachite green and Acriflavine. Same result, patches initially gone but back in a day or so. ![]() Next thing he gave me was Metronidazole/Praziquantel. I put him back in his main tank after the treatment, I did see the patches were almost unnoticeable, still there though, but after one day of him being back in his main tank the problem came back. Treated for 7 days in a hospital tank according to his instructions. I talked to a local vet and he suggested for me to use Tetracycline. ![]() The problem is after about a week of having him he started to get these sort of white patches on his face and then his tail. Cycled my tank before, and made sure it was all good to go prior to receiving him. Hello everyone, I come here hoping to find advice or a solution to my problem.
